Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

Dutch East Indies.

Generally speaking, there is an unmistakable change taking place in public thought indicating greater respect for Christian Science. Our editors especially have shown a greater willingness to print and reprint constructive and informative articles which your Committee has furnished them. The editor of De Malanger has regularly once a month reprinted in his Sunday morning paper the Dutch translation of the religious article published in The Christian Science Monitor.

A noteworthy event of the year was the giving of Christian Science lectures, the first given in the Dutch East Indies. A lecture was delivered under the auspices of Christian Science Society, Batavia, and another under the auspices of Christian Science Society, Bandoent, while at Sourabaya the lecturer had a talk on Christian Science with the members of the then two informal gatherings of students. The lectures were read in Dutch translation immediately after their delivery in English. They were held in the best known halls of the towns and were well attended and much appreciated; as a result of these lectures there have been more inquiries at the Reading Rooms for the textbook and increased attendances at the services throughout the island.
