Health
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says (p. 297), "It is as necessary for a health-illusion, as for an illusion of sickness, to be instructed out of itself into the understanding of what constitutes health; for a change in either a health-belief or a belief in sickness affects the physical condition." We may immediately see from the above statement that to look for health in the body is to err and to participate in a common mistake, for health is not in or of matter. When thought of in terms of matter, the real meaning of health is misinterpreted, for God, Spirit, is the source of the health of man, and health is consequently a spiritual state. As this true concept is discerned, so will human conditions yield assent and show improvement, for true healing takes place in human consciousness.
God is not conscious of mortality and cannot be cognizant of anything that is not of His creating. The material concept of health implies reliance upon so-called material conditions and consequent subservience to the demands these conditions would impose. This misplaced reliance would also suggest that, since material methods and conditions are admittedly unreliable, there could be a possibility of ill health or even a complete loss of health. Thus, if we believe that health is in physicality, then, to be logical, we must admit that disease, its opposite, also resides there. The truth is that neither has any actual place or existence, for in the realm of Spirit there is no matter. Matter is the illusory objectification of so-called mortal mind and in truth it has no power, reality, nor personality. Where error falsely claims to be operating, even there is the Christ, Truth, made manifest in the perfect reflection of God, spiritual man, whom Jesus, the master Metaphysician, always discerned. Jesus never consulted matter as to feelings or conditions. He never asked the seeker for healing how he felt, nor did he consider physical symptoms. A physical diagnosis was never a necessity with him. On the contrary, he completely discounted material conditions, and with his glorious vision looked above and beyond sense-testimony to the facts of eternal Truth, where man is found perfect even as is God, his Father-Mother.
Health made manifest humanly is an improved condition of thought externalized, and is the result of realizing divine facts available to mankind now, and demonstrable in the way they can at present be best understood. Human consciousness rises higher as the result of scientifically applying the truth; and as fidelity to truth is maintained, human consciousness can never return or fall to its former lower level. As the new or real man is discerned, the old man is continually being put off. Thus we learn to look less and less to mortal sense testimony, and more and more to divine Truth, which is spiritually comprehended.
