I was brought up in a medical atmosphere, and it seemed to me then to be a great work to care for and relieve people and, if possible, cure their diseases. But there came a time when I went down in the valley of great suffering. After an operation with no cure, and not even help, I felt too discouraged to fight life's battle further. Then a woman whom I had just met told me that my suffering was not necessary. I asked her to explain her meaning and she lovingly told me of Christian Science and of her healing. This was over twenty-four years ago. In the town in which I lived, the only things I had heard of this Science were against it; so, considering it a fad, I had not been interested in investigating it for myself. Because of the information given me at this time I promised my new acquaintance to try it, and said that I would be as obedient as I had been previously to the physician's instructions. Never once since then have I used a material remedy. My friend told me to ponder Psalm 103:3, and tried to help me to understand it, according to the teachings in Science and Health. In Isaiah we are told that if our "mind is stayed on" God we shall be kept "in perfect peace"—peace in every situation. I began to understand and to get light. In a few days I realized my healing. No more pain! What a glorious liberty! I was overwhelmed with gratitude that Mrs. Eddy had so patiently and lovingly worked to show us how to understand this great truth; and at once I purchased the textbook and subscribed for the literature to learn all I could of this truth.

I have seen the following healings among members of my family: cataract on both eyes very quickly and permanently removed; broken ribs healed without even the use of a bandage; gall-bladder trouble in its last stages, healed after the physician in charge had recommended Christian Science, saying that the patient was too frail to have an operation and that there was no hope in material methods; and scarlet fever, quickly healed, with no ill results following.
