When I began the study of Christian Science many...
When I began the study of Christian Science many years ago I was in a most deplorable condition, both physically and mentally. I was sick, nervous, discontented, unhappy, and at times desperate. After I had been under the physician's care for twelve years, without being healed, a rest cure was recommended.
I had never read the Bible and knew nothing of God, but feared a God of wrath and punishment. While I was in this mental darkness a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was lent to me. I began reading it, and when I came to page 5 I was startled by this statement: "Prayer is not to be used as a confessional to cancel sin. Such an error would impede true religion. Sin is forgiven only as it is destroyed by Christ,—Truth and Life." I began to realize then that I had been living all these years in the directly opposite thought to that indicated in the above-quoted paragraph. I continued to read; however, there was much to learn, and so much to unlearn that my progress seemed slow. I then wrote to a Christian Science practitioner for help. Although the treatment was absent I knew the hour the treatment began, and I wrote the practitioner of it, stating that I had experienced a calm and peace at that hour.
My husband, our three children, and I were subject each summer to chills and fever, or malaria. A short time after I began reading Christian Science literature, I had a severe spell of malaria I again had help from this same practitioner and in about four days was entirely healed. Not only was I healed, but neither I nor any other member of the family has ever had a return of malaria.
