These words from one of our beloved hymns, "O Life that maketh all things new," seem to express most completely my experience as a Christian Scientist. During the past sixteen years I have had endless opportunities of proving the unreliability of materiality and the reality of man's spiritual existence. This change of thought has brought into my life calm and peace where hurry and confusion had been; happiness and joy have replaced despair and discouragement; sickness has been exchanged for health; resentment, criticism, and financial lack have been replaced with love, kindness, and abundance; and my previously starved mentality is now filled with some knowledge of my at-one-ment with my Father.
That others may be blessed by my experience, I shall relate how effectual the change of thought has been in the healing of sickness. For many years before I came into Christian Science I suffered frequently from pleurisy. Six months after I began the study of Christian Science I experienced a physical healing of this condition. Ten years later it recurred, making it necessary for me to learn that I had not ceased to believe that this sickness had been a part of my life and experience; and I was instantaneously healed when I realized that man, spiritually created, has never known and never could know of this erroneous belief. As Mrs. Eddy says on page 393 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Man is never sick, for Mind is not sick and matter cannot be."
Over three years ago I had a healing that fills me with joy because of its far-reaching effect and the conclusive proof of the operation of Principle. The physical condition to be healed was cancer; the mental condition to be healed was rankling resentment; the error to be destroyed was that of believing in the reality of the condition that I resented. When I saw that God had not created this condition, and that it was no part of the spiritual creation, I had nothing left to resent.
