Persistent Effort

Those whose healing in Christian Science may seem prolonged are often heard asking, Why? especially if they are faithful in their efforts to apply the teachings of Jesus, made practical through the inspired interpretation of Mary Baker Eddy. The writer knows something of the difficulties and of the triumphs of hope deferred in a seemingly delayed healing, for it was after years of seeking and faithful study that physical suffering was overcome through the persistent application of the truth.

Some people are quickly healed through Christian Science without gaining at that time much understanding of God; others seem compelled to gain this understanding first; in either case it is the knowing of God, or Truth, that delivers from evil. The realization of God as ever present is of prime importance.

In Galatians we read, "In due season we shall reap, if we faint not;" and on page 254 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy tells us that those are consistent "who gain good rapidly and hold their position, or attain slowly and yield not to discouragement." When one is instantly healed, one may be happily grateful for the manifestation of Truth in renewed health, but may, perhaps, accept the cure without attempting to change false habits of thinking.
