More than twenty years ago, when I first heard of Christian Science, I needed a religion which could hold my interest. I had attended regularly an orthodox Sunday school, but had joined another church. For both of these organizations I have a tender regard, since they met, in part, my earlier needs. I loved Jesus the Christ; however, I feared and disliked God, because of the erroneous ideas which I had of Him. Not until I studied Christian Science did I know that the word "God" really means good, and that He can be nothing other than good and nothing less. One day a new acquaintance, observing that I was very nervous, invited me to her home. While I was there she incidentally mentioned that she was studying Christian Science. Not long after that I was reading the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly and starting upon my new and joyful journey into the realm of better things.

Problem after problem presented itself. With the help of loving friends, clear-thinking practitioners, able lecturers, and a consecrated, tender, firm teacher, I have been guided in my study of the Bible and of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, so that the following difficulties have been met and overcome in my own case: the fear of permanent loss of voice, influenza, nervousness, two incipient attacks of rheumatism, a prominent growth on the upper eyelid, and an exceedingly selfish attitude towards life, its interests and pursuits. I am learning that what one might call the kindergarten lessons in Science which I studied when I was a beginner have become my high school lessons in Science after twenty years of study. The truth which I so confidently accepted in my early days in Science is the same truth which is becoming the subject of deeper study in these maturer years. I know that my understanding is developing as I cherish each improved idea.

I am learning that God's kingdom is perfect and entire; no alterations can be made in it. Therefore the real man is perfect and entire. As man cannot express any mental condition other than perfection, he cannot manifest sin, sickness, or death. I am learning that we manifest salvation by living beautiful lives, by doing successfully our daily healing work. For these blessed religious teachings of Christian Science, and especially for the realization of the presence of the healing Christ, as revealed through the writings of our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I feel in my heart deep gratitude to God, who has directed me so that I am learning daily more of His infinite goodness.
