Twenty-one years ago my son was healed of tuberculosis...
Twenty-one years ago my son was healed of tuberculosis, said to be hereditary, as his father had passed on with the disease. The family physician found a large cavity in one lung. Through the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, with no other help and with very little understanding, the healing was completed in one month. My son is now a strong, healthy man, and has never had a return of the old trouble.
To anyone understanding the Principle of healing, it would be hard to conceive of even a possibility of straying from the truth after such a demonstration of divine healing. I realize now that as we are ready, the teaching comes: that each and every experience is a necessary lesson. I know that once the seek is sown, the law is, "First the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear."
For years in my work I was held in bondage by a false sense of responsibility, a fear for the maintenance of my three boys, and also the thought that I was not good enough to be a Christian Scientist.
The first feeble step in spiritual awakening came when I accepted a position as manager of a sanitarium in Michigan. I had in my employ two registered medical doctors, one of whom was an army surgeon, and two graduate nurses. There finally came a time when I could not be a party to the drugging of patients; but the old fear and the feeling that I had not acquired enough of the Christ-consciousness to become a Christian Scientist, as well as lack of understanding of the divine Principle of healing, kept me in bondage a little longer.
Leaving the sanitarium, I again took up drugless healing; but the seed had taken root. I had been practicing but a short time when I had the privilege of entertaining a Christian Science practitioner in my home for a week. During that one week, with her loving help, I was made to see that I must decide whether I would serve God or mammon. Within two weeks after she left my home I put aside all material means of treating and became an earnest student of Christian Science.
Demonstration followed demonstration, and proof of a loving Father's care for His children was abundantly given me daily. I have proved conclusively that Christian Science has rules as accurate as those governing the science of mathematics. I have demonstrated abundant supply, although my concept of supply has changed.
With the loving help of a practitioner one physical difficulty, that of exfoliation of the gums and an abscessed tooth, was healed.
On page 190 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says: "Does Christian Science equal materia medica in healing the worst forms of contagious and organic diseases? My experience in both practices—materia medica and the scientific metaphysical practice of medicine—shows the latter not only equalling but vastly excelling the former." These words are being corroborated daily by thousands.
I have the privilege of being a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church, and for these blessings I am truly grateful. Words cannot express my gratitude for the Christian Science literature and periodicals, so wisely provided by our inspired Leader; also for the lecturers and practitioners who are following in the footsteps of the Master, as interested by Mrs. Eddy in her textbook.
