I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science...

I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science. About thirteen years ago, through the loving help of a practitioner, my grandmother, at the age of sixty-five, was healed completely and permanently of appendicitis, without a particle of understanding of Christian Science on her part. During the ten years following her healing, I became a student of Christian Science, and experienced many healings. But lately I have come to understand that the command in the Bible, "Awake thou that sleepest," applied particularly to me. I found that the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly had become my greatest joy, instead of a duty, as it always seemed before. I allowed nothing to interfere with this daily joy.

Some years ago I had acquired a very hasty temper, and with it the habit of profanity. When something provoked me I would "fly to pieces" and swear at everything and everybody. Afterward I would shed many bitter tears, and try by will-power to break myself of this awful habit. But it was of no use, for at the first provocation I would do it all over again. About three months after I had begun really to study the Lesson, and enjoy it, one of my family called the attention of the others to the fact that they had not heard me swear for a long time. I realized with joy that I was completely healed, not only of swearing, but also of temper. That was some time ago, and since that time I have had many opportunities to be tested, and not once have I been tempted to get angry or to use a profane word. For this victory I am more deeply grateful than for all the rest put together, although I have much cause for gratitude for many healings experienced in my family, such as the healing of discouragement, lack, burns, so-called children's diseases, colds, contagion, and a broken bone. Through reading an article in the Sentinel about the prodigal son, my husband and I were both healed of a very unhappy thought regarding an elder son.

I am also grateful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; and will do my best to prove my gratitude to God and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, by fulfilling every task willingly and joyfully, in every activity given me.
