Thirteen years ago I came into Christian Science for physical healing. I had applied for life insurance, but failed to pass the necessary physical examination because of valvular heart trouble. Three physicians pronounced the same verdict, telling me that there was no hope of recovery, and that I must give up work, rest at home, and not exert myself in the least, for it might prove fatal. This, of course, created a condition of fear and despondency; and in a state of despair I turned to Christian Science. I had heard of it some years before, but had not given it any consideration, although at that time I purchased the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It seemed my only hope, so I sought the aid of a Christian Science practitioner. The healing came quickly in a very few treatments, and I was able to continue at my regular occupation.
Seven or eight years later, because of business affiliations, I again applied for life insurance. Before taking the examination I once more sought the aid of a Christian Science practitioner, that I might realize the perfection of God's creation and of man as His image and likeness. I took the examination, after which the doctor informed me that I had a perfect report. This report was sent to the main office with the application. To my surprise, in a few days I received a telephone message from the doctor that it would be necessary to call at his office again and submit to another examination, because of records of a former application which was entirely at variance with the present report. This examination was submitted to without the least fear of the result. I passed in perfect condition, and in a few days the policy was received. This to me was a wonderful demonstration, proving the statement of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, on page 468 of the textbook: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." The aforementioned was my first healing in Christian Science, for which I am most grateful.
I have also been healed of severe burns caused by gas explosion, of lumbago, sprains, and bad colds, and have had protection from an automobile accident. I am most grateful to God, the Giver of all good; to our Leader for her clear and positive statements of divine Truth; for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for the privilege of serving in its activities.
