In 1909 I became interested in Christian Science through my own healing. I had consented to have treatment at the request of my mother, who had lost faith in medicine and had taken up the study of Christian Science. To me, then, it was just another remedy to be tried. I was supposed to be following a sister who had passed on two years before with tuberculosis. I had treatment in Christian Science for three weeks and was healed.
Following this I had many instantaneous healings. It seemed as if my physical ailments became magnified, to disappear as quickly as the light of Truth was turned on them. I was able to lay aside glasses which I had worn for three years. This healing was accomplished overnight, and the glasses have not been needed since. These instantaneous healings convinced me that Christian Science is a remedial agent, and created in me a desire to put forth vigorous effort in study to understand and utilize its divine Principle.
In the years that have followed I have had many proofs of the efficacy of Christian Science to heal quickly and permanently. During the past seventeen years, in the rearing of two children, I have witnessed the healing of contagious diseases, diabetes, jaundice, broken bones, dislocated joints, skin infection, and minor ailments through Christian Science treatment. Many beautiful revelations of Truth came to me through these healings, and the children's simple faith taught me how to rely on God as an ever present help. At one time, when one child was very ill, on retiring she asked for the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. In a very short time she handed me the book and fell asleep, to awaken in the morning well. I asked her what she had read that had healed her so quickly. It was the verse by our Leader on page iii of the textbook, which runs,
