My High Desires

"Like to the mountains are my high desires,"
I lift mine eyes unto the hills and pray,
And strength baptizes me and hope inspires;
God owns both heaven and earth, I cannot stray.
He will not suffer that my feet be moved,
The sun with too fierce heat shall never smite,
Each passing moment leaves my trust improved,
The Lord my keeper is, by day and night.
He slumbers never—sweeter rest than sleep,
Activity. God's thoughts preserving man,
My going out, to happiness shall keep;
My coming in, to magnify His plan.
Thou, shelter at my right hand, sweet accord,
From this time forth, forevermore, O Lord!
