Item of Interest

The question is asked at times, "When should 'A Rule for Motives and Acts' be read in the services of a Christian Science church?" The Manual of The Mother Church specifies that this Rule shall be read in the services of The Mother Church and of branch churches on the first Sunday of each month. (See Article VIII, Section 2, and page 121.) In The Mother Church it is and has been for many years the practice to include the reading of this Rule at No. 5 in the order of service as printed on page 120 of the Church Manual. This part of the service is reserved for announcing necessary notices. The First Reader of The Mother Church precedes the reading of this By-Law by an announcement in substance as follows: "This being the first Sunday in the month I shall now read from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy Section 1 of Article VIII, 'A Rule for Motives and Acts.'"
