I cannot hope to express in words my gratitude for...
I cannot hope to express in words my gratitude for Christian Science, as I owe everything to its teaching. It has indeed proved to be the Comforter promised by Christ Jesus, for it came to me when I was helpless and hopeless. I had been ill for about three years, and in spite of every medical attention I gradually grew worse. In search of health I went on long sea trips, rested in the country and wintered abroad, besides being at different times in a big London hospital, a sanitarium, and a nursing home. Finally the doctors diagnosed a very serious disease, and after months of treatment a well-known specialist said he could do nothing more for me. I was very thin and weak, and nearly all food upset me. In this hopeless plight I was sent abroad. Some months later, when I was in Switzerland, I met some Christian Scientists and decided to try Christian Science. I went for treatment and enlightenment to a practitioner; and it was indeed a glimpse of "a new heaven and a new earth" which was given to me. I immediately began to feel better; and after three days I ate a square meal without ill effects, the first for many months. In a few weeks I was a different man, and in a few months was entirely healed. About two years after this healing I underwent a thorough medical examination for life insurance and was certified fit and well. This healing took place about fourteen years ago. Since then I have relied altogether on Christian Science, and have enjoyed practically unbroken good health.
I am intensely grateful to Christian Science for throwing an entirely new light on the Bible for me, so that I can now turn to it at all times and find therein inspiration, comfort, and healing, and also for giving me a religion which satisfies, and which can, and indeed must, be brought into use in every detail of daily life. I am now learning to know God as infinite, ever present Love, who heals all my diseases. I am also very grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for class instruction. For all these blessings, and for many others, I am profoundly thankful to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, whose teaching is enabling me to know God aright and to understand the mission of Christ Jesus.
