I wish to express my gratitude to God for all the blessings...
I wish to express my gratitude to God for all the blessings I have received through Christian Science. My greatest experience was likewise the one that led me to this divine Science more than nine years ago, when I was still in the East Indies. I was very ill when Christian Science came my way, and by a single present treatment an operation on the skull was made unnecessary. For about three months I had been suffering from an extraordinary sort of dizziness; it seemed to me as if the ceiling were approaching me, and as if I were being lifted up to the ceiling. Four physicians, of whom two were specialists, declared they had never come across such a form of dizziness in all their practice. Two different X-ray photographs of my skull showed the necessity of an operation, and the doctors said that if I refused to submit to it, the end would be either lunacy or death. I refused to be operated upon, and I cannot thank God enough for that decision, for it led not only to my healing but to my salvation.
One morning I told the doctor who would have performed the operation that I had decided to go to Holland, not knowing that in the evening the way to Christian Science would be opened for me. The verdict of the doctor was that I should never be able to live in Holland on account of high blood pressure. The lady with whom I was living had a sister who was a Christian Science practitioner at Soerabaia, and she was to be with us that night. I begged my friend to ask her sister to give me treatment. Shortly after, I heard a knock at the door and she entered. She asked me whether I earnestly desired Christian Science help, and I answered in the affirmative, because I dreaded an operation.
As the Bible had been a closed book to me, she explained the glorious truth about God; about the unity, the indissoluble bond, between God and His creation, and gave me an understanding of our Father-Mother God, which Christian Science alone can give us. I was very thankful for this explanation, which I had never heard before. After that she gave me a treatment. Within about ten minutes I felt as if a fresh wind were blowing in my head and as if a veil were rolled from my eyes. I opened my eyes and said, "I am healed." I was healed of insomnia at the same time. To everybody's surprise I arose the next day as usual to go to my work as a teacher, although for the first week I went only for half days.
