The heart of every Christian Scientist overflows with...
The heart of every Christian Scientist overflows with gratitude at the thought of the countless blessings that have come to the world through the vision and steadfastness of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. No words are adequate to express the thanksgiving we feel for the rich legacy she has given to all mankind through her revelation and demonstration of Christian Science. In the words of the Scripture, "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. . . . Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." As one of many witnesses who can bear grateful testimony to the power and efficacy of her healing ministrations, I give glad tribute to the fact that she proved her faith by her works with "signs following."
Twice during my childhood, I was instantaneously healed from what physicians might regard as almost hopeless physical conditions, through the tender ministrations of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. From babyhood, I had been an extremely delicate child, with three generations of serious lung trouble as a background on my father's side. This dread disease had wiped out many of my ancestors and of my own generation. I was believed to have inherited this tendency, and physicians had expressed the opinion that I probably would not grow to maturity.
On one occasion when my trouble was particularly in evidence, my dear mother, who was an early student of our Leader and one of her pioneer workers, had me accompany her to Boston. As soon as Mrs. Eddy heard the cough, she quickly detected the seriousness of the condition and gave me one treatment, which was all that was needed to completely erase every vestige of the lung difficulty. The cough ceased at once, and not only did this distressing condition yield, but the whole mortal law which lay back of the trouble was broken; and through the many years that have followed, I have rejoiced in complete freedom from any return of this so-called family inheritance.
