"As birds flying"

IN the Bible there are to be found many similes to illustrate the love and care of the Father-Mother God for His children, not the least encouraging and comforting of these being the allusions to the birds.

The prophet Isaiah must have loved these feathered friends and often watched their flight, for we find the following beautiful verse in his writings: "As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it." "As birds flying"— what a loving, simple lesson of freedom and certainty he gives us in those few words! Most of us have time after time watched birds in flight, and marveled at their sureness and swiftness, and the unerring instinct which guides them safely home. In the flight of a bird there is no hesitation. Swiftly does it fly toward its journey's end, even though it may have to cover many leagues of ocean.

On pages 511 and 512 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read these words: "The fowls, which fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven, correspond to aspirations soaring beyond and above corporeality to the understanding of the incorporeal and divine Principle, Love." It is through these spiritual aspirations that we glimpse the possibilities of infinite, ever present Love, which defends, delivers, and preserves us.
