Sixteen years ago I was healed of chronic constipation, liver and stomach trouble, severe headaches, biliousness, diseased gums, and other ailments while reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Material remedies were discarded at once. Nervousness, depression, discouragement, sensitiveness, and extreme unhappiness disappeared when I realized that they were not the effect but the cause of ill health, and that I could assert my right as a child of God to rule them out of thought and experience.

I shall never forget the joy I felt when the full meaning of the following words on page 15 of the textbook was realized: "In order to pray aright, we must enter into the closet and shut the door. We must close the lips and silence the material senses. In the quiet sanctuary of earnest longings, we must deny sin and plead God's allness. We must resolve to take up the cross, and go forth with honest hearts to work and watch for wisdom, Truth, and Love." Three young sons were entered in the Christian Science Sunday School, and their steady growth and many demonstrations were noticed by other members of the family, who also became interested in the truth.

After one year of peace and joy and health, there came to me a severe testing time. I became very ill, and alarming symptoms were in evidence. An internal itch, very disturbing, made rest or sleep impossible. Speech was impaired, and the loss of flesh was very alarming. My appearance was such that it caused much comment from friends and neighbors, who felt certain that I should not live very long. During this trying time my husband suddenly passed on. Through the help of a practitioner and many Christian Science friends my courage was kept up and the truth was tenaciously held to. I realized that the great light which I had glimpsed could never be extinguished, no matter how loud the material senses argued. One day while declaring the truth steadfastly I saw clearly that I must cease to believe in part only; that I must believe wholly and entirely in Truth. I gained a wonderful sense of peace. The following Wednesday night I was able to go to church, and the entire Bible reading from the desk pertained to the tongue. I then realized that a new tongue had been given me spiritually as well as physically. I left the church completely healed, and more uplifted in thought than ever before.
