Since I began to rely solely on the true God, whom I...

Since I began to rely solely on the true God, whom I found through the study of Christian Science, I have been healed of toothache, influenza, poverty, the drink and smoking habits, a very bad temper, and many business troubles.

Five years ago, when I began the study of Christian Science, I was living in apartments. I had quarreled very seriously with my father two or three years previously, and not only had not seen him since that time, but did not know where he was. I had written to him through a relative who I thought might know of his whereabouts, but had received no reply from either the relative or my father. After studying Christian Science for twelve months I became out of work. This had occurred so often before in my life that I longed to find work that would be permanent. Having learned from my study of Christian Science that I had a right to be permanently employed, and having a small sum of money, I decided to let Christian Science lead me; for, I thought, I have enough to live on while I try it. I had no success, for I was putting my trust in money and not in God. But as week by week my money became less and less, my study became more and more earnest; so that when, one day, I found myself without food or money, not even one halfpenny, I had learned sufficient to know that if God could not help me nothing could. A suggestion came to borrow from my friends, but I said, "No, I will trust God to supply my next meal." Half an hour later I had found a shilling: I had received a thought to go to a certain place, remove something, and there I would find a shilling. I obeyed, and never since have I lacked anything I needed. For two months my needs were met through various temporary jobs, and I did not fall one penny in debt. Then one joyous day I received a letter from my father. He had received the letter I had written over a year before and said that if I needed a good berth he could fix it up; this he did. My joy when I received that letter was indescribable.

To-day my father and I are the best of friends and I am wonderfully happy. My gratitude for Christian Science is very deep and sincere, for I have learned to be strong through trusting God. I find it impossible to express in words my gratitude to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for having founded this wonderful movement. I have found during my short experience that one of the chief stepping-stones to success in Christian Science is the acceptance and acknowledgment of Mrs. Eddy as Leader. I am deeply grateful, too, for the loving, watchful care of the practitioner who helped me through.—John Egginton, London, England.
