Several years ago, when my wife was seriously ill in a hospital and the family had been summoned for what was considered the last time, her mother called a Christian Science practitioner, whose work proved very effective. After a few treatments the fever abated and my wife was allowed to be carried home. I had my first glimpse of Christian Science at this time, although we did not then take it up as a study.

During my wife's stay in the hospital a swelling became apparent on my neck. The doctors pronounced the condition tubercular glands. An operation was performed, and for weeks I had X-ray and violet ray treatments, at much expense of time and money; but to no avail. Finally, my wife becoming worse, and my own case more hopeless than ever, we turned earnestly to Christian Science and asked for treatment. We used the only money we possessed to buy the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and it has been to us a most wonderful investment. We learned through the study of this truth that man in God's image cannot be sick, or suffer, or lack; nor can he be in any situation or condition in which God cannot be found. By putting into practice this and many other facts of true being we were brought out of the darkness of mortal, material thinking. Step by step we came into the realization of health and abundance, when good was seen as the only effect from the one and only cause, God.

My healing took place several weeks after asking for treatment. A swelling appeared on my neck and was very painful, but we clung to and persisted in the truth; and with the help of a loving Christian Science practitioner this swelling opened, drained, and finally healed. I gained twenty pounds in the following weeks, went back to work, and am now perfectly healthy. I have been healed, too, of the tobacco and drinking habits.
