My first healing in Christian Science occurred over three years ago, and was to me a very beautiful experience. I had been suffering for some days with a rather severe attack of gastric trouble, and one night on retiring to bed, I felt so ill that I thought I would not be able to do my usual reading, a portion of the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly; but, realizing that it was error trying to stop me, I began reading and managed to continue until I had almost finished the section. The sense of pain then became so acute that I was unable even to think. As I was sitting still, words that I had read some time before in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 16) came to me as though spoken in a clear, authoritative voice: "God is the only Life." This awakened me from the sense of pain to realize somewhat that God is indeed my Life. In a little while I was able to finish my reading, and from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, there came to me these words referring to sickness, "the false testimony of the material senses" (p. 268). Immediately I saw the unreality of the so-called sickness; that it was just "false testimony"—with no truth in it. I then lay down with a feeling of unutterable peace, completely healed.

Since then I have been healed instantaneously of fluid on the knee. Later I was healed, with the help of a member of my family who is a Christian Scientist, of a great sense of fear. Before coming into Christian Science I had attended spiritualistic meetings, and through these gained a very unhappy and erroneous sense of things; and I was full of fear. I did not realize how extensive this fear was until I had been studying Christian Science for some time, but it became so extreme that I asked for help. Shortly after this I was awakened one night with a terrible sense of fear, so that it seemed I must make a final stand. My only hope was to hold fast to the thought of the omnipotence and omnipresence of divine Love. This I did, in the best way I knew. In a few moments there was such a glorious sense of the presence of divine Love that the whole room seemed filled with unspeakable protecting tenderness, so that there was no room left for fear. This experience gave me a clearer understanding of the words,
