[Original testimony in German]
I heard of Christian Science for the first time in 1911...
I heard of Christian Science for the first time in 1911 through a friend, and it made a great impression on me. I had been brought up very religiously, but in later life had completely lost faith in a God who, I thought, was good and bad at the same time, and who was supposed to send so much sorrow to mankind. I, however, had always had a longing for something higher, and so gladly accepted the teachings of Christian Science.
At that time we were moving to the country, and unfortunately I had little opportunity to study this teaching, especially as my relatives were strongly opposed to it. It was not until August, 1927, when I felt that a serious illness was developing, an illness which manifested itself in pains in my breast and a badly swollen neck, and which grew worse for weeks, that I realized that I could not get well through medical aid, and that God alone could help me. I was also very much afraid of an operation, which I thought was inevitable. When my relatives began to urge me to do something for myself, I did not turn to a physician but to a Christian Science practitioner, whom I asked for help, which was at once lovingly given. After the first treatment I felt a decided improvement, and after three treatments I was healed to such an extent that the lady doctor whom, since my husband wished it, I was obliged to consult, could find only a slight swelling of the thyroid gland. This, too, has disappeared, and since then I have been perfectly well. All discomfort has disappeared.
I am indeed grateful to God for this wonderful and quick healing, and above all grateful that He, through Christian Science, has led me to the path of Truth. Now I know that our Father-Mother God is a help in every extremity; all that we need to do is to ask Him for help in the right way. It is my greatest desire to learn more and still more of the teachings of Christian Science, so that I too can do my part in helping others. I am also grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her self-sacrificing work for the good of suffering humanity, and to the dear practitioner for her loving help.
