[Written for the Sentinel]

Meditation*

Uplifted , calm, with peace and joy replete,
Am I when on God's law I meditate.
Lags not the day, and e'en the night is fleet,
While lovingly His law I contemplate.

I will not with ungodly people walk,
Nor sit in judgment in the scorner's seat;
Nor in the way of sinners stand, nor talk,
But to the secret place of God retreat.

And living springs of Love shall prosper me,
Like unto verdant trees where waters flow,
That yield their season's fruit abundantly
To bless mankind, and fuller life bestow.

*After the First Psalm.
