[Original testimony in German]
Before I knew anything about Christian Science I was...
Before I knew anything about Christian Science I was very unhappy. While still attending school I was told that I had been born on an unlucky day; that I never would be lucky, nor would I live to grow up. I took this so much to heart that I was never happy, and as a matter of fact I was never well. Very early in life great fear, from which I suffered terribly, chiefly at night, befell me and was the greatest hindrance to me in every way. Since the age of fourteen I had suffered from discordant heart action, rheumatism, and colds.
Four years ago I decided to go to Geneva to visit some dear relatives, and among other things I told them of my suffering. They began to talk about Christian Science and about an all-loving and all-powerful God; and that there were no unlucky days, because every day was God's day. For the first time in my life I was wonderfully comforted, and I shall never forget it. A load fell from my heart. Soon afterwards my relatives sent me a Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I began to read them diligently. Very soon, too, I found work near Geneva and attended the church there on Sundays; and it was lovingly explained to me that I too could become very happy.
In time I asked help from a Christian Science practitioner, who with great love and patience gave me absent treatment. More and more the desire was awakened in me to learn to understand this beautiful teaching better. Later I found work in Zurich, where I have been able to attend church regularly. My condition improved noticeably. By striving earnestly for the truth, and with occasional help, I have been healed of heart disease, rheumatism, sore throat from which I suffered in midsummer, and almost unbearable toothache; also of poverty, lack of success, weariness, and great fear. Appetites have yielded to spiritual joys. Last year I found a permanent position, just what I desired.
