In gratitude for the Board of Lectureship of The Mother...
In gratitude for the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, I send this testimony of healing which took place following a lecture on Christian Science.
For eight years before I took up the study of Christian Science I had consulted a number of medical doctors and specialists for a very painful internal disease, without gaining any relief, each saying that only an operation would correct the trouble. I was about to give up in despair when Christian Science was offered me. I at once borrowed a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began to study it. I was so happy to find in it the truth that God is Love, and that as we learned to know Him aright we would be freed from sin, disease, and even death; but I did not have treatment at once for this and other ailments that needed correcting. After reading a short time I asked for absent treatment from a practitioner and it was lovingly given. Other discords disappeared, such as headaches, extreme nervousness, weakness, bladder and kidney trouble, but the one most painful did not depart. One day the thought came to me that it was my own problem to work out; so I searched the Scriptures and Mrs. Eddy's writings to find something that would remove this error from my thought. After three years of clinging to the words, "Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept. Patience must 'have her perfect work'" (Science and Health, p. 454), I attended a lecture which so filled my thought with joy and gratitude for Christian Science and our Leader that the next day the evidence of an internal growth passed away. This took place over five years ago, and the healing has been permanent.
Another healing which I experienced was one of so-called incurable eye trouble. I had worn glasses since I was a small child. This healing took place while studying the textbook. I removed my glasses to clean them and my eyes fell on the page and the words were illumined. I put the glasses away and have not needed them since. This was about six years ago, and I can now do the finest work and read the finest print much better without the glasses than I did with them.
