"Neither shall they be lacking"
Concerning the children of Israel Jeremiah prophesied, "They shall be fruitful and increase;" and he added, "Neither shall they be lacking." Thus Scripture very definitely states the fact that the children of Israel are entitled to an abundance of good, and that lack is to be no part of their experience.
In the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy gives us the spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures, the correctness of which is being proved daily by many the world over. Indeed, these very proofs, evidenced in the healing of sickness and sin, have brought about the phenomenal growth of the Christian Science movement. On page 583 of this textbook our Leader defines "children of Israel," in part, as "the representatives of Soul, not corporeal sense; the offspring of Spirit." In the light of this definition it is readily seen by the student of Christian Science that the truth voiced by Jeremiah is as applicable to-day and forever as it was in bygone days. That which is true always has been, and always will be, true. Time, place, or conditions cannot alter spiritual fact. Hence the Word comes to us to-day just as definitely as it came in time past, namely, that God's children shall be fruitful and increase, and shall lack nothing.
We must remember that this prophecy was made concerning the children of Israel as "the offspring of Spirit." Consequently, it is only God's spiritual offspring that can lay claim to the spiritual heritage. We can rest assured, however, that as we live up to our highest understanding of right, we shall proportionately receive both spiritual and temporal blessings, as did the Israelites in the days of old. Indeed, many are proving this to-day. Does not the Bible assure us that "God is no respecter of persons"?
