I am grateful for a little seed that was sown in an impersonal way. When a child I heard an unknown neighbor singing, "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Poems, p. 14), and was told it was a Christian Science hymn by Mrs. Eddy. That was the first mention I had heard of Christian Science. Soon afterwards, at a time of great grief and distress over the loss of my mother in a sudden and tragic accident, this stranger was the only one with whom I wished to be. The few minutes spent with her brought peace and uplift, though I cannot recall any words she voiced; and brought the desire to investigate Christian Science.

After I had purchased our priceless textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, with the last money in sight, supply was realized the following day. I took this book to my room and reasoned that if it was the "key" to the Scriptures it would unlock the healing truths contained in the Bible, and it would not be necessary to read these books with glasses, which I had found absolutely necessary for reading even the large signs on billboards. At first it was almost impossible, then very difficult, then through steadfast faith "line upon line; here a little, and there a little" was read. Then, without struggling I became so interested that I was reading page after page without thinking of my eyes; and I never since have read the Bible or Science and Health with glasses, and only for a few weeks did I use them for studying my schoolbooks. Just when the complete healing took place I cannot tell, but a month later I found the glasses at the bottom of my trunk, whereupon I threw them into the rubbish and have never felt the need for them since.

I am especially grateful for the privilege of Sunday school instruction for three years, for it helped to lay a good foundation on which to build. During this time I had many opportunities to prove the saying that "Christian Science, if good for anything, is good for everything." The various avenues through which Mrs. Eddy presented this truth to the world helped to solve all the problems of a young girl alone. Many minor physical healings, many instances of the protecting power of an ever present God, were experienced. It seemed as though divine Love was always leading the way, for although several changes were made I always found congenial and helpful surroundings, occupations, and friends. Of late I have enjoyed the privileges of membership in a branch church and The Mother Church, and have been very grateful for the opportunity of returning in part the good received through the different activities of the church. I am also exceptionally grateful for the great benefit of class instruction.
