Joyful gratitude constantly ascends to God since I have proved His tender protection in the following circumstances. On the evening of the thirtieth of December, 1927, I was riding my bicycle to my home, a little over three miles from Geneva, along the Swiss road. I had almost reached my destination when I felt myself rudely shaken from my bicycle and thrown headfirst with great force against a stone wall at the side of the road. I had been hit by a side car coming behind me, the occupants of which had not seen me on the road; and as they had not slackened their speed, the shock was severe. Nevertheless, I had time between being thrown from my bicycle and hitting the stone wall to realize that God is my Life. I did not lose consciousness, in spite of severe injuries to my head, from which the blood flowed freely. The two occupants of the side car, one of whom was slightly injured, tried to raise me, but I immediately fell back inert. Then I seemed to hear this question: Is your life in this mortal body? At that moment I raised myself, feeling that I could walk. I sat in the side car and was taken to my home. Upon arriving there I could reassure my mother, who was very much frightened by all that appearances suggested; and she ran to seek a practitioner friend who felt, when she saw me an hour after the accident, that the demonstration was made, for I was feeling very well. I was able to sleep that night; and when my mother came the next morning to open the door of my room, she saw that I was lying on the side of my head which was wounded, and that it did not cause me any pain. Only my right leg and foot remained a little sensitive. In the morning some improvement was felt; and in the afternoon I set out for Geneva, where I walked until evening without experiencing any suffering or fatigue. The next morning I could sing the solo at the service.

A Christian Scientist friend who had come the day after the accident, rejoiced with me in the efficacy of the divine power which was demonstrated through Christian Science; and my non-Scientist friends were dumbfounded by such a quick and complete healing. Personally, I know that I was tenderly protected by divine Love. My gratitude goes out to God above all, and my heart is overflowing with thankfulness to Mary Baker Eddy for the teaching of Christian Science, which enables us to protect ourselves and shows us so clearly that error is never real, but that good alone is enthroned.

In trying to conform my thinking to the teachings of Christian Science great changes have taken place mentally and physically. Confidence in God and the assurance that all is possible to Him have destroyed doubt and healed neurasthenia. A stomach trouble which had tortured me for a long time was healed when a Christian Scientist friend explained the rule of physical healing as Mrs. Eddy teaches it in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." What a privilege it is to know that we are losing nothing when we abandon our false human concepts, and that only as we seek first "the kingdom of God, and his righteousness" shall all legitimate things be added unto us.
