I have longed to express my thanks and gratitude for Christian Science. When I first heard of it I was far from what I should have been morally. I had got to where I was looked at as one of the "low," as my sins were black and many. Oh, how I cried out to God to help me live a different life! It was at this stage that I met a lady who was a Christian Scientist. What a true disciple she was! She told me that God is Love, and that my heart's desire—all that I longed for—I could find if I would turn to God. She asked me to go to church with her, and I did so many times. I got a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and tried hard to understand it. Little by little I was being changed. When I had tasted and found it good I longed for more. I found the pure love I had longed for, and I am truly born again.
That was twelve years ago, and through my study I have had many beautiful healings: one was of a cross-eye, which has straightened out; another of heart trouble; another of an impediment of speech. When I took up the study of Christian Science I was twenty-eight years of age and could not tell the time of day. Many a time I have looked at a clock and longed to be able to tell the time. In some ways I seemed stupid; the schooling I had had was very little. But God is Mind. I had studied Christian Science about three weeks when I found to my surprise that I could tell the time. What a blessing that was!
About seven years ago I had a bad cold on my lungs; the pain in my chest and back was so severe that I could scarcely breathe. There was no Christian Science practitioner in the town. About four o'clock in the afternoon I sent a telegram asking for help from a dear practitioner. When my husband came home and saw me he said I was going to die if I did not have help at once. I told him I would have help soon. About eight o'clock that same night the pain began to ease, and about ten o'clock it was all gone. Next morning I was up. I have never had trouble with my lungs since.
