Receiving and Giving

"Shepherd, show me how to go
O'er the hillside steep,
How to gather, how to sow,—
How to feed Thy sheep."

These lines by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy (Poems, p. 14), constitute a prayer often on the lips and in the heart of the sincere student of Christian Science. They are replete with comfort and illumination. To all who have been uplifted and healed by the tender ministrations of Christian Science, sooner or later comes the desire to minister to others in like manner. The order of procedure is clearly indicated; first to gather, then to sow, and then to feed the sheep. Certainly, gathering must precede sowing, or one would have nothing to sow; and sowing brings forth the supply to feed the sheep.
