After I took up the study of Christian Science, my whole...

After I took up the study of Christian Science, my whole outlook on life became different. Instead of being fearful of everything, and consequently selfish, irritable, exacting, depressed or excitable by turns, I learned that my life, being governed by God, was not governed by error, and that happiness and goodness are permanent. I was in terror of being taken to a lunatic asylum. I suffered always from fatigue, and had an almost constant pain in my side, which I feared was due to an internal growth. The first time, however, that I read the words, "Spirit is the real and eternal" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468), I saw the truth about this, and was healed of the fear.

One of the first healings I had, after I began this study, was of influenza; and it proved to me how powerful is a Christian Science treatment. It was on a Sunday evening when I became very ill and feverish: my head ached, and I was hardly able to stand. In dismay I telephoned to a practitioner. To my surprise she did not tell me to go to bed, as I had expected, but to go to supper and eat in the ordinary way, and to talk to my husband as if I were perfectly well. This I did, though it seemed difficult; but before I had eaten much, it was just as if a dark cloud over my head had been dispersed, and I was healed.

One morning I woke to find I was covered with a rash and was feverish. My first impulse was to get up. I dressed quickly and telephoned to a practitioner. As cases of measles had to be reported, I called in a doctor to ascertain if that was the trouble. The rash was much less by the time he came, and he pronounced it German measles. By noon that day I was well, all symptoms having disappeared.
