I am thankful beyond words for our periodicals, these spiritual messengers that bring their feasts of love and truth to enrich and bless us. I most humbly turn to the fruitage, or testimonies, for fresh inspiration, and never fail to feel my heart welling with gladness and tenderness, reminding me of our great debt to our beloved Leader, whose pure affection for humanity, and compassionate life, made these expressions of gratitude possible.

It is many years since I received my first healing in Christian Science. A year of invalidism, during which the physician advised an operation against which I rebelled, left me in a state of extreme dejection and fear, as well as of increasing physical suffering; and when I was finally told that the dreaded operation would not make me well, sick at heart and wearied with the distress of it all and with my useless existence under medical treatment, I turned in despair to Christian Science. A dear mother and sister had long been devoted students of these teachings, and it was their earnest solicitations that finally led me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, although I could not comprehend how the reading of a book could relieve physical distress. In one of the paroxysms of pain to which I was then subject, I picked up the textbook, and was amazed to find myself quite free from pain after twenty minutes' reading. Though the complete healing was slow, this particular phase of the disease never returned, and the full healing of the trouble, which took place within three months, has been permanent.

How hungry I was for the truth, and how joyous over each new step of progress as the way unfolded to me, only those know who have experienced a similar regeneration! The light did not come with any sudden increase; but I had such convincing glimpses of the truth that I never doubted I had found the "pearl of great price;" and so I was enabled to hold to what I was daily and hourly receiving of good, until a fuller understanding came.
