Many blessings have come to me in the eleven years that I have been studying Christian Science.

A lifelong physical disorder was permanently healed during my first reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Seasickness was overcome in a few minutes by meditating on the words from Psalms, "If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right shall hold me." Lost money has been found by knowing that God does not make a thief, and that God knows all; hence that man, as His reflection, possesses all the knowledge necessary for the solution of his problem. A malignant growth disappeared while I was pondering Mrs. Eddy's words (Science and Health, p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."

In the hurricane of September, 1926, in Miami, Florida, we were wonderfully protected. One morning in July, the thought had come to me very forcibly to have reinforced concrete porches built all round our house to keep the concrete walls from getting damp. I thought this was a fine idea and that we would do it in a few years, when we might have enough money saved for the work. But the next day the thought came to me more strongly, and I sat down to ponder it. I thought, It certainly is a necessity, and if it is the right thing to do, it can be done now and the money will be provided. God was asked for guidance, and the funds obtained. While the porches were being built I reminded myself each day that "except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it." As a result of again listening to the "still small voice," the roof was tarred. It was all finished a few weeks before the hurricane, and consequently the house did not leak at all, nor was any part the least bit damaged. The noise of the wind and the rain and the crashing of parts of the neighbors' houses was terrific, but all through the storm I closed my eyes to all material sense testimony as well as I could, knowing that there is no other power or presence than God. Over and over again I repeated the verses from Mark: "And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?"
