In May, 1922, I talked for the first time with a Christian Science practitioner. I was then under treatment from a physician, who feared that an operation might be necessary. The practitioner said to me, "If it comes to that, I will tell you of something else first." There it remained, as the operation did not prove to be necessary; but I had gained an idea of something spiritual as able to help. In the meantime I remained weak, and in consequence of several circumstances was very downhearted and discouraged. In July a Christian Science pamphlet came to me. I read it, and after that began to study the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. A few weeks later I gladly discovered that the weakness, fatigue, and dejection had entirely vanished.
In the following April our third child was born. In the preceding months I had learned much, so that I was full of faith. With very little pain our boy was born, whereas a physician had feared it might be a hard battle.
Nearly two years later our youngest child came, and then the birth was very quick and without pain. I owe much to the practitioner who helped and sustained me during that time. A fortnight after the birth the right breast showed inflammation and was very painful owing to a boil. Then in a talk with the practitioner the fear that I should not be able to fulfill the task I had in my household with four little children was taken away. On the fifth day the boil broke, and the wound healed in a very short time.
