Glorifying God

One does not proceed very far in the study and application of Christian Science before he notices how this teaching honors and glorifies God. He finds that in this respect, as well as in every other, Christian Science is exactly in accord with the spiritual teaching of the Bible.

Isaiah represents God as saying, "I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." Christian Science does not in the slightest degree vary from this dictum. Willingly and gladly, its adherents become obedient to its teachings in an ever increasing measure. They learn not only to acknowledge the supreme power of God after they have felt its beneficent effects, but they learn also naturally and habitually to acknowledge Him even before the evidence of His power is seen.

Christ Jesus' earthly career might be said to be a continuous paean to the glory of God. He took no credit to himself for the marvelous healing of the multitudes, but turned all praise to God. Over and over again it is stated in the Bible that those whom he healed went on their way praising God. Jesus made special effort to make clear to his disciples that it was God who did the healing work, and that He should be recognized and glorified. His own constant praise of God was strikingly manifested when he acknowledged Him before raising Lazarus. The result of thus magnifying God furnished a convincing proof of His omnipotence. Jesus' unwavering, unfaltering praise of God presents an example which all Christian Scientists should seek to emulate at all times.
