Christian Science came to me in a time of great mental...
Christian Science came to me in a time of great mental and physical need; and through a dear lady who was a Christian Scientist this need was met. I was suffering from rheumatism and was in a most unhappy state of mind, but through her clear declarations of Truth I was healed physically, and my mental condition improved. I knew it was God, Truth, who had healed me, and I have always given Him the glory. This healing occurred when I was a young girl. After my marriage I took up the study of Christian Science in earnest, and for a number of years my home seemed very happy. Then, in one way and another, temporal ties were severed and I was left, as I believed for a time, utterly desolate. But through the consecrated work of a practitioner I was lifted out of this condition and inspired to live that I might serve God and my fellow-man. I am learning what Life is and how to live, and am happier than I have ever been before, because I now know more of what constitutes true happiness, and that "sorrow is not the master of joy" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 304).
Another healing which I am profoundly grateful for is that of timidity and self-consciousness, this being a so-called inherited belief. I have been benefited to such an extent that I have been able to take my place as Reader in a branch church and have on several occasions introduced lecturers.
In counting my blessings, I cannot pass over the privileges of membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and class instruction by a loyal student of Mrs. Eddy. But that for which I am most grateful is the increasing understanding of Christian Science and the ability to apply its teaching not only to my own problems, but to those of others also.—(Mrs.) Ella M. Hinrichs, Gardena, California.
