A noted writer once said, "Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul; and the heart of man knoweth none more fragrant;" and the Psalmist tells us that we "enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise." Therefore, it is with gratitude, thanksgiving, and praise that I desire to bear testimony of my healings in Christian Science.
From early girlhood I was subject to nervous sick headaches which kept me in bed for two or three days almost every other week. Later, there was added chronic constipation, and when womanhood arrived there developed other difficulties. Four physicians in my immediate family had at various times earnestly and sincerely endeavored to heal me by their methods, but with no success. I am grateful to testify that these false pictures have been completely obliterated through the study and application of Christian Science, and my health has been established. These and many other ailments did not all disappear at once, but whenever there was need for immediate relief the need was beautifully met, and there have been many instantaneous healings in my experience.
My first gleam of the truth of Christian Science came one evening when a practitioner answered an assertion made by my husband, using the first sentence of "the scientific statement of being" from our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." Instantly the following thoughts flashed through my mind: If life is not in matter, where is it? That is where I thought it was, and I have been doctoring matter, lo, these many years, trying to be healed. The next time I have a sick headache I am going to ask this practitioner for help. I am going to try to find out where Christian Science teaches that life is.
