I did not become a student of the textbook of Christian Science,...
I did not become a student of the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, with the hope of being benefited thereby, but for quite another reason, namely, to enable me intelligently to criticize a friend who was a student of Christian Science. I found, however, that there was nothing to criticize, but just the opposite; for before I had read many pages I realized that I had been freed from ills for which I had been treated by a physician for a year. I found also that this precious book was indeed a "pearl of great price," and that if it were earnestly studied, and the truths gleaned therefrom put into practice, every problem in my daily experience could be solved.
It is many years since Christian Science brought to me the priceless gift of spiritual freedom; and since my first glimpse of the truth I have been protected, healed, and blessed in proportion to my honest obedience and daily application of the truths taught by our revered Leader. I have been healed of a number of discordant physical conditions, some acute, others of a more chronic nature. I have also been healed of financial limitation, and have overcome much fear by learning to trust God. Some of the healings were instantaneous; others seemed tenacious and yielded more slowly, at times requiring the aid of a loving practitioner to free me from the belief in the reality of disease.
One healing that has especially given me freedom was that of grief caused by the seeming loss of my mother. She passed away when I was a very young woman, and for years I grieved for her, feeling that I had been deprived of the companionship which rightfully belonged to me. Many years later, after becoming a student of Christian Science, I returned to my former home for a short visit, and while there I gained a new understanding of God as Life. The burden of grief that had bound me for years slipped away forever.
