When I was eleven years old I suffered from curvature of the spine, the result of a bad fall. In spite of many years of treatment by various physicians, the complaint took on a more and more serious character. I remained in this state until I was fourteen years old. I had a long way to go to school each day, and one day I noticed that walking caused me unusual effort, although at first I did not take much notice of this. I grew so much worse that I was obliged to give up attending school. In a short time both my legs became paralyzed. Then I was under medical treatment for about nine months; but I was not healed, or even relieved. The doctors under whose care I was said they were unequal to the case, so I was taken to a hospital. An operation was performed, but in vain. My last hope seemed taken from me when the medical authorities said my complaint was incurable.

When this crisis was reached, my parents heard of Christian Science, and after attending a few Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings, they were convinced that nothing but Christian Science could heal me; so they asked a practitioner for treatment. At her advice, but in opposition to the doctors, I was taken home.

Through the practitioner's loving treatment and my study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, it gradually became clear to me that God is the Principle of all health, and that man expresses this Principle; hence sickness is never real, and must yield to the divine law. Soon after treatment was begun, my condition improved to the extent that I could move both legs. I improved daily, and soon was able to try to walk. Through the loving treatment my understanding grew firmer and firmer, one error after another fell from me, and in a short time I was completely healed. This was in 1924. Since then I have undertaken long walks and have done a great deal of bicycling, but have never had a return of the difficulty. Christian Science has been invaluable to me in my occupation. I do not know what I should do without it. The curvature of the spine is also very much improved. For this I am sincerely grateful to God. I think I can express my gratitude best by daily endeavoring to understand and grasp more of the truth.
