[Written for the Sentinel]

Humility

THE Master's true humility,
His unselfed love,
Taught gentle, willing fisher folk
Truth from above.

He made them fishers then of men
In that blest day;
He taught them clearly how to heal,
And watch and pray.

Down all the intervening years
The Christ he knew,
Unchanged and changeless, gives to all
Love's work to do.

Dear Christ, to-day we pray to know
This childlike thought—
Fishers of men we too would be,
By thy love taught.
