We were privileged to see, through an experience of our sixteen-year-old son, the wonderful way in which God's infinite love and ever present help operate. In March, 1922, he was taken very ill with the grippe, which resulted in double pneumonia, pleurisy, phlebitis, and weakness of the heart. According to human opinion he was in a dangerous condition. For nearly six weeks he had high fever and was delirious. The whole family were very anxious and concerned about him, as he was the only son. The fear of losing him increased daily, for to the doctor, too, it seemed almost impossible that he could recover.
However, we too privileged privileged to perceive that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." One day a dear friend came to see us and called our attention to Christian Science. She encouraged us by telling us not to give up hope, for our anxiety could be relieved, especially if we would believe and accept the teaching that all things are possible to God. Our darkest hour grew lighter; we grew calmer, and placed all our confidence in God. We immediately asked for Christian Science treatment. The messenger who brought us the truth got into touch with a loving practitioner in Berne and asked for treatment. The blessing came, and we were certain God was at work, for the very next day our son began to improve. What joy for us all, and for the physician, who expressed his surprise at the quick change!
I can testify with sincerity that from the time our son was under Christian Science treatment he developed both mentally and physically very quickly, and became happy and fearless. He was more and more conscious that he would be healed, and his belief has become certainty. All our relatives were very much surprised that he recovered in such a short time. He is now a loyal adherent of Truth, as we all are. It is our endeavor to learn more and more of this beautiful teaching, which makes us all free. Words are inadequate to express our gratitude for what Christian Science has done for us.
