Our Way-Shower
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, laid down his life for his friends—not only for his immediate followers, but for all mankind. He laid down his life! And he lived his life so as to show us how we must live in order to gain that harmony and peace which the world cannot give.
By his perfect life and in the doing of his wonderful works Jesus demonstrated the power, love, ever-presence, wisdom, and knowledge of God; and he taught that those who love and obey God and understand his teachings can do the same works he did, and even greater works. He had "not where to lay his head;" yet he had dominion over all the earth, over all sin, disease, and death; and even the winds and the waves obeyed his command. He was poor in worldly possessions; yet the riches of the kingdom of heaven were at his disposal, and angels ministered unto him.
Jesus walked through this life in meekness and humbleness of spirit; yet he overthrew the tables of the money changers in the temple, driving them out with an authority such as even the high officials of the temple did not dare to use; for he was about his Father's business. He did not care for the esteem of hypocrites, but wished above all else to do the will of God. He healed all the sick who came to him to be healed. Even in the temple on Sabbath days he performed wonderful cures, which brought him the rebuke of the Pharisees and the hatred of the self-righteous. He, however, always reflected the loving-kindness of the Father toward his fellowmen, calling all the weary ones to come to him for peace and rest, for freedom from all that was wrongly laborious.
