The Heritage

"The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage."—Psalms 16:6.

O God, who gave such gifts to me,—
Unending life and truth,—that I,
Reflecting Thy eternal Mind,
Might of Thy goodness testify;
Who love unchanging did bestow
That I might all Thy creatures bless;
Who gave me courage, health, and joy,
Wisdom and strength and loveliness;
Who while I closed my troubled eyes,
Hast like a tender mother smiled
And poured Thy blessings at my feet—
Pardon a most ungrateful child!
No more I stand in stubborn doubt,
Heir of such wealth from endless age,
I will reach forth my hands and take
This fair and goodly heritage.
