One of the greatest blessings in my life has been the...
One of the greatest blessings in my life has been the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School. It is through this wonderful activity that I have been enabled to gain a small understanding of the beautiful truth taught and demonstrated in Christian Science. During the ten years in which it has been my privilege to attend the Christian Science Sunday School, I have had innumerable opportunities of proving God's omnipotence and omnipresence. I should like to relate one experience which stands out very clearly as a positive proof that Love "never faileth" and that "perfect love casteth out fear."
When I was a senior in high school the argument presented itself that a certain subject was very difficult for me to master. Instead of denying this falsity at once, I let it grow, and so came under its suppositional power. It kept growing until my marks became such that, had I known nothing about Christian Science, failure would have been inevitable. My teacher, knowing that I was putting forth my best efforts in that subject and that my graduation depended upon my passing in it, did all in her power to aid me, but still I did not succeed in gaining an understanding of the required work. The fear that failure was certain was the error that was holding me back.
A few days before the final semester examination, after every material means had proved futile, and mortal mind with its arguments of fear and confusion seemed to be controlling me, I realized that "man's extremity is God's opportunity," and so I turned to that "perfect love" which "casteth out fear." Through the loving help of a very dear Christian Science friend, all sense of fear and discouragement was entirely overcome before the examination took place. I went to the classroom with perfect confidence in the power of God, knowing that Love "never faileth," and so man, the reflection of divine Love, "never faileth." I worked every problem immediately, and, needless to say, the results were harmonious. I had made only one slight error, so was given a mark of ninety-eight. Seventy was the mark required for passing.
