For about a year before taking up the study of Christian Science...
For about a year before taking up the study of Christian Science I was a most unhappy person. At last I realized that this unhappiness and discontent were due to the fact that I felt so far away from God. When I began earnestly to search for Him, and to strive to come near Him, I found my thought turning to Christian Science. A copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy had been in my home when I was a girl, and I had read it, but without understanding it. When I read it with the desire to know God aright and to be at peace with Him, I learned that truly our heavenly Father does not give His hungering children a stone. For the small understanding of God I have gained I am extremely grateful; and for the great and good expectancy that I may daily come nearer Him, I am also grateful.
Following upon the gaining of this understanding of God came many physical healings for myself and for my family. I should like to tell of one instance of a headache which was healed instantly through turning to Christian Science. I had been subject to these headaches from the time I was ten years old. On this particular evening the pain seemed worse than usual, and I was almost delirious; so my husband finally said I must do something, and then I had the courage to ask him to go for a practitioner who lived a few blocks away. Immediately the pain lessened, and by the time the practitioner came I was almost well; and she had sat with me only a few minutes when I was healed. Later, in studying the passage in Isaiah, "And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear," I remembered this healing and knew it was a proof of this Scripture.
I am grateful for this healing and for many other healings, also because I am able to see that I am more loving; and I pray God that I may daily grow in love.
