Letters from the Field

[Extract from a Report of Relief Work at Miami, Florida]

In compliance with your request, I herewith submit a report, gathered from various quarters, of some of the work done by the down-town branch of the Christian Science Relief Quarters in Miami, Florida, several months ago.

An announcement was made that clothing was needed. At once it began to come in. With these "five barley loaves, and two small fishes," the work of supplying the "five thousand" was started. Thousands of garments of every description were given away, yet the supply continued. When it seemed as if clothing were about to run out, boxes would arrive from distant cities.

Many requests have been received for Bibles and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. These were also lovingly given. A woman came to the relief workers with only one request: She said that her copies of these two precious books, which had been her daily help, had been swept away by the storm, together with all the earthly possessions of the little family, but she was confident that if only she could have the books replaced, the family could work out their problems through the application of the spiritual truth contained therein. The worker, on questioning her, found that the immediate material needs of this family were very great; and so all these needs were lovingly supplied, as well as the two books she sought. The Master's words come to us, "I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."
