I had been brought up under a religious system, with its creeds and ceremonial forms, which held the belief that disease and all untoward circumstances were to be canceled at death. I plainly saw in the words and works of Jesus, the Way-shower, that this system did not harmonize with his teaching and works. And the daily question was, Why do I have to submit to a law of lack, and a law of disease, and a law of chance, and still another law of death, in order to realize a state of much voiced happiness? Upon failure to find a correct answer to these questions, I close up the Scriptures as so many contradictions and a travesty on God. I could not understand a God who could or would permit such wretchedness and misery as I had encountered in my travels, and protested against this sham Christianity, if what I had seen and experienced were true. And, like the prodigal son, I wandered around in a wilderness of materiality, feeding on the husks thereof, until materia medica also proved a failure, and my wife suggested that we try Christian Science. Not having any prejudice, I was willing to try this remedy; and the following healings in our family are the proof of the truth of Christian Science.

By reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and with the help of loving practitioners, painless childbirth was effected; a tendency to suicide and insanity has been destroyed; and broken bones have been set and healed without surgery. When I say that we are debtors for all time for these "signs following," I speak with all sincerity. Only by reflecting Life, Truth, and Love, and continuing in His Word, can we pay this debt of love. I am grateful for membership in a branch church; also for the privilege of teaching in the Sunday school.—Arthur G. Stevens, Gladstone, Oregon.
