Reviewing my existence before learning of Christian Science,...
Reviewing my existence before learning of Christian Science, I know that words are inadequate to express my gratitude for my present blessings. Only by my daily deeds can I prove that I have found the "pearl of great price."
I did not take up the study of Christian Science for healing; but there had been so many years of sickness with various members of my family that I was weary and heartsick with worry, loss of sleep, and the drain on vitality that attends such cases when we have lost faith in God's willingness to care for us. Often when speaking of heaven I would say, "Well, heaven to me is a place where there is no sickness." Pearly gates and golden streets did not interest me; but any place where there was no sickness meant heaven to me. I thank God that through the study of Christian Science I am now planted in the path leading to this heaven of my hopes. I am learning that heaven can be here and now. My children are no longer frail and delicate, but radiate that health I had longed to see for so many years. My husband is no longer an invalid from severe heart spasms that seemed to bring him to death's door so often, leaving him weakened, depressed, morose. My days are days of rejoicing, instead of days of discouragement and bitterness.
My eldest daughter, who had been sick all her life, constantly under a doctor's care and never free from having to take medicine, was healed of a growth in her nose, of dizziness, and of hemorrhage. She had been pronounced tubercular, and we had tried two operations, chiropractic treatment, and patent medicines, and she had been attended by six physicians—the best we could find in the different places where we had lived. She attended school very irregularly, often missing weeks and even months at a time. In the past four years she has not missed a day due to illness.
