Gratitude Must Be Expressed

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men." Thus John, the beloved and loving disciple of the Master, opens his narrative in his Gospel in the New Testament.

We know that words express thoughts; and we learn in Christian Science that all good thoughts are emanations of God, divine Mind, the only cause or creator of all that is real, good, harmonious, and eternal. Contrary to the false belief that there are countless minds, each individual having a mind of his own, we learn in Christian Science that there is but one Mind, for God is Mind, and there is but one God; and also that the man God creates expresses, reflects, or manifests that one Mind, which is altogether good. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, expresses this perfectly on page 468 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where she says, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all;" and she concludes the paragraph by saying; "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." Again, on page 520 of the same book she declares that "unfathomable Mind is expressed."

Were an architect to conceive of a most wonderful structure and yet do nothing to have the mental picture expressed, the structure would never be built and his ideal would never become helpful to his fellow-men. We know, of course, that it is very necessary to begin with the right mental concept; but we should not forget that it must be carried out in effect—that is, must be made manifest outwardly. Every Christian Scientist is an architect and builder, constantly receiving God's beautiful thoughts in word and deed.
