I have seen more than a few curious statements about Christian Science from representatives of other religions, but the following statement, attributed by your Northfield correspondent to a speaker there, is one of the strangest that I have seen. "'Christian Science,' he said, 'is not interested in religion but finds that it functions best by having large crowds of people thinking the same thing.' " The simple facts are that Christian Science is religion and it functions best when practiced individually by its most consistent adherents.

This incident prompts me to quote the following observation by President Coolidge: "It is not easy to conceive of anything that would be more unfortunate in a community based upon the ideals of which Americans boast than any considerable development of intolerance as regards religion."
